marilynandbob  > Music > Nov, 2007; Telluride, Colorado with Durango Choral Society
The Durango Choral Society performed a huge concert of American music (Copeland, Bernstein) in Telluride, Colorado, in November, 2007. We were joined by the Telluride Choral Society and had the honor of singing with the San Juan Symphony, conducted by Maestro Arthur Post- the symphony is very good! This was a huge event and both the Telluride performance and the Durango performance were sold out in large concert halls, and very well received!

marilynandbob > A rehearsal in Telluride- here's the leader of the Durango group, Linda Mack, and the director of the Telluride Choral Society, David Lingle. We had rehearsed the music separately for months, and this was our first time together. There were a few rough spots, but we blended and bonded well, and the final product was fantastic.
marilynandbob > One fun thing we all did was ride the gondola from town (there it is below) to the Mountain Village, the hub of the Telluride ski area during ski season. What a view, eh? Colorado sure is a spectacular place. Telluride is only a couple of hours drive from Durango.
marilynandbob > Marilyn and Lois (alto) riding the gondola up to a luncheon at a fancy club on the mountain.
marilynandbob > Some members of the Durango Choral Soceity drove to Telluride; the rest of us were on a charter bus (including Marilyn)- it was a beautiful drive and a fun group. Here's our start off, with director, Linda Mack, in the front.
marilynandbob > The Telluride Choral Society arranged a simply elegant pot-luck lunch for us all. Here is Marilyn with Lois and Lynn (altos from Durango choral Society) and one of our Telluride hosts.
marilynandbob > Fancy restaurant for lunch up on the ski mountain. Here are some of us with the outdoor fire pit, which we didn't really need because the weather was very temperate for time of year. Note: a month later, Telluride and Durango and indeed all of southwestern Colorado were very, very cold and had plenty of snow!
marilynandbob > Our Telluride hosts put us all up in condos and lodges- all 60 of the Durango singers plus around 40 instrumental musicians in the San Juan Symphony. Marilyn stayed in a condo along with a tenor and a bass from Durango, and this violinist with the orchestra. She was from Colorado Springs. Marilyn took this photo from the loft, where her bedroom was located. The others slept in various rooms downstairs. It was elegant, with a full kitchen of course, decks and a river view. None of us could have afforded it on our own.
marilynandbob > After our concert in Telluride, some of us gathered at Smugglers, a bar and grill which would normally have been closed (off-season in Telluride) but which opened specially for us!! We had a good time decompressing from the excitement of the show. The next day, back to Durango where we did it all over again. It was a wonderful experience.
